Keep Your Eyes Healthy | Eyes Are Everything:
- What determines whether we have good eyesight: genes or our lifestyle?
Both. Certainly, genes play a large role here, for example, if one of the parents has myopia, the child is more likely to have this problem too. If both parents - the risk increases even more. However, the fact that we are genetically programmed to look into the distance also influences the appearance of this vision defect. Our ancestors looked for the game, did not read books. Our eyes are not adapted to constantly staring at something next door. Meanwhile, in recent years we have been working with our eyes more and more: we read, write, and work on the computer. We focus all the time. Our eyes are not made for this. No wonder there is even talk of an epidemic of visual impairment. Its development is also greatly influenced by a bad diet, environmental pollution, and spending many hours in closed, heated, air-conditioned rooms, not outdoors.
- Does the computer affect eyesight that badly?
The myth about the negative impact of working at a computer on eyesight should be dispelled. Reasonable use of the computer, in good lighting (in the back, not in the front), and keeping the appropriate distance from the monitor (50-70 cm) does not have to hurt your eyes. Especially if we take breaks from time to time, during which we will look into the distance. Americans recommend the 20:20:20 rule, meaning after 20 minutes of working at the computer for 20 seconds, look at something in front of you that is approximately 20 feet away (or about 6 meters). Unfortunately, we usually do not take such breaks from work, sit too close to the monitor, and work in poor lighting. Staring at the computer monitor also makes us blink less often.
- What does it matter to the eyes?
Huge. Under normal conditions, weblink at least a dozen times a minute. The moments when the eyelids are closed for a moment give the eyes a respite. At the computer, weblink a few times less. Also, our eyes are wider than usual in front of the screen. The result is faster evaporation of the so-called tear film, which causes the eye to dry out.
- In recent years, there is more and more talk about dry eye syndrome.
The eye produces fewer tears, which causes the cornea to dry out, the eyes are red, stinging, watering, and being oversensitive to light. The ailments intensify in air-conditioned, smoky, or dusty rooms. The treatment consists of moisturizing the cornea with the so-called artificial tears - these are in the form of a gel or drops. I recommend them especially to people who complain of dry eye syndrome, work in an office, are over 40 years old. They should take such preparations several times a day.
- Is it true that a laptop is more harmful to the eyes than a computer?
Usually yes. The screen in the laptop is smaller and we do not keep the prescribed distance from the screen while staring at it. Instead of 60-70 cm, there are only 30.
- Should we wear special glasses for computer work?
There's no need. People who have a visual impairment should wear corrective glasses or contact lenses of the appropriate power. It's good if such glasses have an anti-reflective (AR) coating. Its task is to eliminate light reflections that are troublesome for the eyes (glare). They are formed on smooth and polished surfaces of an eyeglass lens.
What about sunglasses?
To wear them only in summer or also on sunny spring days? Whenever the sun is shining. For example, in winter, snow reflects the sun's rays and UV radiation very strongly. They reach the eyes and are even stronger than in summer. However, you should remember that glasses should have sunscreen, and not only be tinted, because that doesn't mean better eye protection. On the contrary. When we don't have glasses, we squint our eyes in response to the harsh light, and the pupils narrow, so fewer UV rays enter the eye. Dark glasses in the glasses limit the flow of light to the eyes - the pupils dilate and catch even more ultraviolet radiation. That's why we should always buy sunglasses from optical stores. They must have good UV filters and an appropriate certificate.
- A good diet is enough for the eyes to be healthy, should we support them with some preparations?
A good diet is essential, but sometimes it's not enough. I believe that people over 40, who are more prone to retinal diseases due to their age, should take ready-made preparations containing omega-3 acids (this type of fat is very beneficial for eyesight) and lutein and zeaxanthin, i.e. pigments found in the retina the eye (they protect against macular degeneration, among other things). It is best to consult an ophthalmologist about the choice of a specific eye aid.
- What diseases are our eyes exposed to?
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This is a disease of the retina that causes loss of central vision. A healthy macula enables recognition.
it's necessary to protect your eyes when you care about your eyes you feel healthier and free of stress. THANKYOU
